on Friday 7 May 2010, i posted a listing on Craigslist to sell an ikea sideboard. I recieved only ONE reply from a potential buyer who came to view the sideboard on Monday 10th May 2010...well i wasn't too keen on selling the sideboard in the first place and somehow, with some miniscule effort, i just posted that listing; I was hoping to declutter the house and to make small changes to our current place just becuase i was bored.
Turns out that the sideboard didn't suit the buyer... but hubby and i decided to give him a lift back to his apt since it was nearby... and hubby mentioned that he saw an advert in the papers as someone was selling an apt in the condo where our 'buyer' was living in! Well, the 'buyer' said "That's my place that the my landlord is trying to sell! i can tell you all about it, the price and the last price that someone offered!"... so NOW we were more enthusiastic about sending him home, coz he volunteered to show us the place...
We went up. We looked. We decided that the price was ok. Hubby liked that apartment, even though it was afterall a 2 bedroom apt. but we figured out for that price, it was affordable and that we could possibly consider buying it... so we left the 'buyer' at his home and wondered if WE, the sellers of a sideboard would now turn into the 'buyer' of his rented apt???
But after much research (few hours on the internet)... I was convinced that the price per square foot was too much to pay ....and i narrowed my search to another 2 bedroom apt, nearer to town and to the MRT station and persuaded hubby to switch targets. On thursday we viewed 2 apts in that condo. The price was not within our budget although we were relatively open to moving to a 2 bedroom apt.
On 15th May 2010, we found our new home. We liked what we saw; it was slightly bigger than the 2 we viewed on thursday, the price was within our budget and we decided on the spot that we could live there!
What surprised me was the way we were led to our new house. We started house hunting sometime ago, maybe even a year ago. we didn't manage to buy anything despite the fact that we made 2 offers for 2 different 30 yr old HDB apts during this period-but the deals just didn't go through. we stopped looking because house hunting just didn't work out for us. And one day, out of the blue, while posting a listing on craigslist for the first time (for an item i didn't even sell in the end), led us to something which we weren't looking for in the first place.
Once again, it was the house that chose us.....
